Q: Is graduation still happening?
A: The college is currently working on preparing a virtual recognition but this will not be in lieu of the postponed ceremony. Once details are finalized they will be shared by the college to all graduating students via email, as well as posted on this site.

Q: Does the graduation information I receive apply to both undergrads and graduate students?
A: Yes, this Class of 2020 website and our blast emails go to both, Bachelors and Masters, graduating groups.

Q: I'm a current graduating senior and I haven't been receiving any emails in regards to graduation. Can someone please reach out and add me to a mailing list.
A: All emails regarding graduation are sent our to CityMail accounts. Make sure you double-check all folders, including Spam. If the emails are not found, please reach out to us via and answer some questions below to better assist you. Did you apply to graduation? If so, when did you apply?

Q: I believe I am eligible for a honors cord, how do I go about receiving it?
A: Normally, honors chord is distributed by your division of study. However, due to COVID19, the distribution of the honor cords would take place once we establish a safe presence back to campus.

Q: I missed the Cap & Gown stuff! How can I get my gown?
A: You can still get your Cap & Gown by ordering online with Herff Jones (please view the "To-Do List" tab at the top and go into the dropdown menu for "Cap and Gown Information"), the deadline to order is May 27th.

Q: Is it mandatory to purchase my cap and gown?
A: It is not mandatory, however it is recommended if you are financially stable to make the purchase. It is a way for you to commemorate achieving this milestone with your loved ones. In addition, the in-person commencement isn't canceled. So you may want to have it ready for the postponed commencement ceremony.

Q: I missed the Pictures! Are they coming back?
A: Unfortunately no, however, you can click here to learn how to upload an image for your senior portrait for the yearbook.

Q: I don’t have my cap and gown, is it okay for me to take a picture without it?

Q: What Division am I in?
A: Your division is based on your area of study.

Q: What is the difference between Main Commencement and Divisional Ceremonies?
A: The main difference is the Main Commencement invites the entire graduating class on campus, while the Divisional Ceremonies are targeted at the graduating class of your division of study. In this case, the college is organizing a virtual recognition event for the entire graduating class. Your division may also organize another virtual event just for the graduating students of your division.

Q: I would like to know about potential division events for virtual recognition?
A: Please reach out to your division. The specific individuals that you should contact is on the CCNY 2020 Division Contact page.

Q: I'm looking to get the 2020 yearbook.
A: The 2020 yearbook will usually be available a semester after graduation as we include the senior class in the yearbook. As in-person commencement is postponed, this might be delayed. You would receive an email to your citymail when the yearbook is ready for purchase.

Q: How can I request my diploma and when is it available?
A: Usually, diploma is available approximately 3 months after the conclusion of your graduating semester. By normal procedures, you would get an email from Registrar that you can pick it up when it is ready. However, that may change now as we do not know when City College would reopen. The best form of being updated would be to keep a lookout on your citymail for updates from Registrar or to take a look at their website: Let us know if you have any other questions.

Q: I need to take summer classes, and Registrar is telling me to remove my graduation application. What happens now? Am I on the list?
A: That's pretty simple. If you have applied for graduation, then yes, you are on the list. When you "de-apply" for graduation, your name does not get removed from the list.

Q: They told me I can walk if I have some classes to take in the Fall, is this true?
A: "They" always tell you things they shouldn't. If you are taking classes in the fall, you become part of the NEXT graduating class 2020. If you are finishing your credit load by the end of the summer then you are eligible to walk for Spring 2020. The requirement to walk is of 6 credits or less after this Spring Semester.

Please email if you have any questions. Please note that you must first complete any remaining credits you will have after this semester and then apply again for the next graduation.
