This is a friendly reminder that next week, the Clinical Psychology PhD Program, The Psychology Department, and The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership are hosting Dr. Nadine Kaslow.
Nadine J. Kaslow, Ph.D., ABPP is a Professor with tenure, Emory University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; Chief Psychologist, Grady Health System; and Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Kaslow was the 2014 President of the American Psychological Association (APA), and she is President Elect of the APA’s Division of Public Service (Division 18). Dr. Kaslow has received multiple federal and foundation grants, she has published over 300 articles and three books. A member of Rosalynn Carter’s Mental Health Advisory Board, she is a nationally recognized expert in suicide, intimate partner violence and child maltreatment, depression in children and adolescents, posttraumatic stress disorder, and psychology education and training.

Talk 1: Keynote address for Research & Scholarship Day, Clinical Psychology PhD Program, CCNY.
Title: Grady Nia Project: Culturally-Informed Treatment of Abused, Suicidal Low-Income African American Women
Location & Time: SH 107, 1:00 - 2:30 pm.
This presentation will offer a culturally-informed evidence-based approach for treating women in abusive relationships who have attempted suicide.
Learning Objectives
This presentation is designed to help you:
1) Understand the link between intimate partner violence (IPV) and suicidal behavior in low-income African American women
2) Learn about the development of a culturally relevant intervention that focuses on reducing risk factors and enhancing protective factors in this population
3) Become familiar with the outcomes and mechanisms of change of an empowerment-based group intervention for this population
Talk 2: Conversations in Leadership Series, Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership.
Title: My Journey as a Psychologist: Leadership Lessons Learned
Location & Time: SH 250, 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
In this presentation, Nadine J. Kaslow, PhD, ABPP (2014 President of the American Psychological Association) will share her personal journey in psychology. She will share the leadership lessons that she has learned along the way, including those about leadership in times of organizational crisis. Particular attention will be paid to how her experiences have shaped her personal and professional development and have resulted in her efforts to be a collaborative, transformational, courageous and ethical leader.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Reflect upon their own personal and professional histories and the lessons they have learned from the mistakes they have made
- Examine their personal values about leadership
- Articulate their own approach to leadership
- Develop a framework for leading in times of crisis
