We hope your semesters are going well! Thank you so much to those who have joined us for our previous events so far!

Here are some upcoming events we will be hosting and some upcoming opportunities to help you jumpstart your research career. Be sure to join us for the next event on March 28th, 2023 to view current undergraduate research students' work!

Opportunities:

  1. REU in RNA: The RNA Institute at SUNY Albany is hosting a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program focused on scientific discovery in and around ribonucleic acid (RNA) science and RNA-based technologies. Apply here(Deadline: March 30th, 2023)
  2. Louis Stokes Alliance For Minority Participation: The SUNY LSAMP program seeks to diversify the STEM workforce by increasing the numbers of students successfully completing STEM degrees. Multiple SUNYs participate. Apply here(Deadline: March 27th, 2023)
  3. ASET REU: ASET-REU interns can conduct environmental research on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River watershed with a focus on Aquatic Natural Sciences or Aquatic Sustainability Sciences. Apply here! (Deadline: March 24th, 2023)
  4. ETH Global Health Experiential Fellowship: Another gap year opportunity! This fellowship allows you to conduct global health research in Uganda over the summer which will culminate in a publication. Full disclosure, the tuition is $2,579 to cover travel, accommodation, and food expenses. Apply here(Deadline: May 1st, 2023)

Scientist Highlight:

Patricia Era Bath was an American ophthalmologist and an alumnus from our very own Hunter college. She was the first female member of the Jules Stein Eye Institute, the first woman to lead a post-graduate training program in ophthalmology, and the first woman elected to the honorary staff of the UCLA Medical Center.

She made multiple discoveries related to laser eye surgery and predictive mathematical models for cancer cell growth. A true pioneer!

The Biology Research Symposium is an event where current undergraduates will showcase their research! It will be held on March 28th, 2023 at 11:00 AM in MR 801. You will be able to learn more about research at CCNY and the experience of your peers. Don't miss it!
