It's the final haul! As you prepare for finals and start wrapping up your assignments for your classes, we are here to remind you to pace yourselves, get plenty of rest, and keep to a schedule. Burn out is rough and we at Tribeta are here to support you through your academic and research journies. Check out our resources section to get a better idea of how to be better supported!
As always, here are some upcoming events we will be hosting in the future (and some opportunities)! Come by for a relaxing time making activity kits or storybooks.
Neuroscience Mentorship Program (NMP): This program is a valuable tool for aspiring neuroscientists to explore the world of neuroscience with resources that are readily available. Students will use these resources to pursue an independent project that will culminate in a presentation and a write-up by the end of the summer. Apply here! (Deadline: May 20th, 2023)
Biology Mentorship Program (BMP): We pair mentors with research experience at the college level and beyond with underserved students to lead, together, an independent research project that 1) supports the mentor's development towards independent investigation and mentorship skills, and 2) supports the mentee's interest in continuing in science. Apply here! (Deadline: May 20th, 2023)
Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) at BIOS: BIOS has NSF REU funding to support nine undergraduate student researchers at BIOS during the fall semester. Students will conduct individual marine science research in a collaborative team environment under the mentorship of BIOS faculty and staff. Apply here! (Deadline: May 31st, 2023)
BioNews Today
It's Mental Health Awareness Month! In this month's highlight, we're honoring not one, but two researchers: Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark and Dr. Kenneth Bancroft Clark. The Clarks are best known for the famous “Doll Study” in which more than 200 Black children participated. Their work in this study provided invaluable evidence in favor of ending school segregation in the supreme court case Brown vs. The Board of Education, citing that school segregation was psychologically harmful to black children.
