Design/Build/Fly The City College of New York

We are a student-led engineering team. Every year, we design, build, and pilot a radio-controlled aircraft to compete at the international AIAA Design/Build/Fly competition.

[Plane Name]

Built to deploy and retrieve a sensor.

Our new aircraft is in the design phase. Prototype photos and flight footage will appear here as the project progresses.

We are developing the next aircraft through iterative design, fabrication, and testing.

Divisions

Three divisions take an aircraft from a blank page to the flight line.

01 / ANALYSIS & DESIGN

Design

Use CAD and computer analysis tools to develop a conceptual design and refine it into a detailed aircraft design.

  • Aerodynamics
  • Structures
  • Payloads
Meet the division
02 / FABRICATION

Manufacturing

Turn digital designs into physical aircraft using careful fabrication, composite work, and assembly.

  • CNC machining
  • Composites and wet layup
  • Aircraft assembly
Meet the division
03 / INTEGRATION & FLIGHT

Testing

Integrate aircraft electronics and avionics, verify systems, and prepare the aircraft for successful flight.

  • Flight testing
  • Avionics and wiring
  • Propulsion
Meet the division
