Our chapter creates a space where young women can develop as leaders in policy, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and community-building. At CCNY, we recognize that our campus is home to some of the most driven, diverse women in New York City, young women who are already changing their communities but often lack the structured support to amplify their impact. Girls Who Lead at CCNY exists to change that. Our goals on campus include hosting policy and advocacy workshops, connecting members with professional mentors, organizing speaker events featuring women in politics and public service, and building a community that extends beyond graduation.

Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP)
The Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) is a nationally recognized initiative that reflects CUNY Medicine’s leadership in expanding early exposure to careers in science, medicine, and the health professions for younger students. Originally established at Weill Cornell Medical College in the late 1980s, the program has expanded to academic institutions across the United States, including the Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program/CUNY School of Medicine. In the fall of 2014, through the diligent work of student Sarin Abiola Soyemi, HPREP was established at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/ CUNY School of Medicine. Encouraged by CUNY’s student body, she was inspired to provide an opportunity for medical students to mentor high school students who aspire to work in the healthcare professions. HPREP introduces high school students to a broad range of healthcare careers through a series of structured learning experiences. These include seminars, guest lectures, interactive workshops, and mentorship opportunities led by medical students and faculty. Sessions are held at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at the CUNY School of Medicine.

Himalayan Intercultural Member Association *HIMA*
HIMA, the Himalayan Intercultural Member Association, was created to build a stronger sense of community at CCNY by giving Himalayan students, including international students, a space where they can connect with people who share similar backgrounds, experiences, and values. In a commuter school environment, it is easy for students to come to campus, do their work, and leave without ever feeling truly connected. HIMA aims to change that by creating a social and supportive space where students can find familiarity, belonging, and meaningful relationships. The idea for HIMA is deeply personal to its founder, Sonam Tenzin, who experienced firsthand what it felt like to search for that kind of space. As a freshman at CCNY in 2023, making friends was not the main challenge. The harder part was finding people from a similar Himalayan background. Because the Himalayan community is such a small minority, those connections were not always easy to come by. HIMA was created to solve that problem by giving students a central space to come together, rather than forcing them to search for one another individually across campus. It is meant to serve as a social hub where Himalayan students can feel seen, understood, and connected. While our mission is rooted in uplifting the Himalayan community, HIMA also welcomes anyone who is genuinely open to learning about Himalayan culture and engaging with the community respectfully. We want to create opportunities for both cultural connection and personal growth. Through seminars, guest speakers, workshops, and professional development opportunities, members will be able to grow academically, socially, and professionally. At the same time, we will host fun and engaging events such as dance performances, cultural showcases, and social gatherings that celebrate the richness and diversity of Himalayan traditions. This summer, we plan to continue hosting events that help strengthen and expand the Himalayan community. At our recent unofficial event, we brought together over 30 people to connect, enjoy Himalayan snacks, and spend time with one another in a welcoming environment. Moments like that reflect exactly what HIMA stands for: creating real community, bringing people together, and giving students at CCNY a campus experience that feels more human, connected, and memorable.

Mela Mayhem
Mela Mayhem is a South Asian club founded by CCNY students, dedicated to providing a welcoming space for all South Asian students. This club finds its roots in a small room inside the library of the NAC, where we first discussed the need for a proper desi club within the halls of CCNY. The few desi clubs that existed within CCNY were based only on national background. This failed to provide the desi students within campus with a space to connect, only dividing the already small Desi community. After months of planning and hardwork, we are finally excited to introduce this beloved project of ours to you all. The name “Mela” is derived from Sanskrit, signifying festivity, embodies our mission for fostering a joyous community among students. Whether you grew up here, or anywhere else in the world, all students of CCNY are welcome to enjoy the vibrant culture of the Indian Subcontinent. From board games and trivia contests to large gatherings like cultural festivals and mock weddings, we plan on promoting culture awareness and fostering a sense of belonging within our community.

On the Same Page
The purpose of this club is to bring back the joy of reading. For many of us, entering college has required us to engage in academic texts that greatly stray from the lively books that used to engage our imaginations. This phenomenon has further pushed away students from finding leisurely reading to be enjoyable. Research shows that reading books that display positive forms of representation serve as mirrors, sliding glass doors, and windows to empower students and expose them to diverse representation which overall increases a one’s self esteem. People ‘meet’ other cultures, races, and genders for the first time typically through stories. This club will give its members an opportunity to travel outside their community through stories to learn and empathize with people who may be different but share similar experiences. A safe space for students is fostered to discuss issues that are currently important to them as reflected in the books they read as well. On the Same Page provides a different approach to reading where it is not seen as a assignment but something to look forward to.

We believe the projects we are focusing on currently, namely scratch-built flight electronics and hybrid/liquid rocket engines, are valuable learning experiences for CCNY students. It is our belief that such projects expose students to industry-standard technology that they may not otherwise be exposed to before entering the workforce.

The CCNY Pre-Physician Assistant (Pre-PA) Club
The CCNY Pre-Physician Assistant (Pre-PA) Club is a student-led organization dedicated to supporting students who are interested in pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant. While CCNY has a large population of pre-health students, there is currently no space specifically focused on the PA path. This club aims to fill that gap by creating a community where students can find guidance, resources, and support tailored to the unique requirements of PA school. Our mission is to help students better understand the PA profession and feel more confident navigating their journey. We strive to provide clear, accessible information about prerequisites, patient care experience (PCE/HCE), the CASPA application process, and what it truly takes to become a competitive applicant. Through workshops, guest speakers, and panels with current PA students and professionals, members will gain both practical knowledge and real insight into the field. Beyond academics, this club is centered on building a strong and supportive community. We hope to create a space where students can connect with others on a similar path, share experiences, ask questions openly, and feel less alone in what can often be an overwhelming process. As a new organization, we also aim to give students the opportunity to take on leadership roles and actively shape the direction of the club. Our goal is to establish a lasting presence on campus that continues to support future pre-PA students and becomes a reliable resource within the CCNY community.

The Italian Club at CCNY
Whether you are a fluent speaker, a heritage learner, or someone who just really appreciates the difference between a latte and a caffè latte, the Italian Club at CCNY is your home for all things Italia. We are a community dedicated to celebrating the rich tapestry of Italian culture, language, and history right here in the heart of Harlem. Our mission is simple: to create a vibrant, inclusive space where the CCNY community can engage with Italian heritage and contemporary culture. We believe that culture is best experienced through connection—whether that’s through practicing the language, sharing a meal, or discussing the nuances of Italian cinema and art. We aim to bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world, providing a low-pressure environment for students to sharpen their linguistics or simply find a "famiglia" away from home. What We Hope to Achieve - We aren't just here to talk about the past; we’re here to build a community for the future. On campus, we hope to: Foster Cultural Exchange: We want to be a hub where students from all backgrounds can learn about Italy’s global influence, from its fashion and engineering to its philosophy and, of course, its culinary traditions.
